Interview Simulator — Frequently Asked Questions
How the USCIS naturalization interview works and how to prepare for it.
How does the USCIS naturalization interview work?+
During your naturalization interview, a USCIS officer will ask you civics questions from the official question pool one at a time. For the 2025 test, the officer asks up to 20 questions. You pass if you answer 12 correctly. The interview stops early if you reach 12 correct (pass) or 9 wrong (fail). For the 2008 test, up to 10 questions are asked and you need 6 correct to pass.
How does this interview simulator work?+
The simulator replicates the real interview format. You choose your test version (2025 or 2008), then an officer asks civics questions one at a time. You select the correct answer or type it in. The simulator tracks your score, shows instant feedback, and stops automatically when you reach the pass threshold or fail threshold — just like the real interview.
What is the 65/20 exemption in the interview simulator?+
The 65/20 exemption is available to applicants who are 65 or older and have been permanent residents for 20 or more years. In the simulator, selecting this mode draws only from the asterisked questions. The officer asks 10 questions and you need 6 correct to pass.
What happens if I give a wrong answer in the real interview?+
In the real USCIS interview, the officer continues asking questions. For the 2025 test, you fail if you accumulate 9 wrong answers before reaching 12 correct. For the 2008 test, you fail if you get 5 wrong before reaching 6 correct. If you fail, you get one more interview opportunity within 60-90 days.
Is this interview simulator free?+
Yes, the interview simulator is completely free with no account needed. Premium members ($14.99 one-time) get an ad-free experience and access to audio study mode across the entire site.
